Ok, here is one of many stories. While sketching at an Art and Craft Show in Bemidji Mn. a number of years ago, a mother and 6yr. old daughter came for a quick sketch. While the little cutie sat, mom stood next to me dictating, "sit up nice and smile nice, not that way, that's a dumb smile, smile nice." The more mom talked the more harder it was for the daughter to smile that perfect smile, she only smiles on Christmas morning. Mom didnt let up. I caught her daughter, discreetly rolling her eyes, putting up with moms antics. To cut to the chase, I finished the drawing. There was no smile, as it was fake, and I dont draw them.
Ok, mom decided to sit down and get sketched. All right now, lets have some fun w mom, maybe in good taste, give her a bit of her own medicine (a dangerous move) I'll risk it. So, I told her daughter to come stand next to me and watch me draw mom. As she did that, I asked her if there was any interesting thing about her mother she would like to share. Well, I didnt have to ask twice. "Oh, yes. My mother has a new boyfriend and I dont like him;" I couldn't shut the kid up. Mom in the mean time got snake eyes, the crowd behind me got very quiet. Some how I got thru that, and didn't learn my lesson. Anything for entertaining my crowd. The End
