Fifty years ago I had little direction and did not know how fulfilling and exciting my life would be. In 1965 I joined the U.S. Army as a Private. My military journey included the Officers Candidate School and commissioning as a Second Lieutenant in 1968; Germany, Viet Nam where I led an Infantry Platoon and later an Infantry Company receiving Combat Awards and the Purple Heart; commanding a company at Fort Benning, Georgia and attending the Officer Advanced Course; the University of Albuquerque where I received a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration; and Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana, as the Inspector General. There I met and married my wife Judy and became a father to two of our children (Renee and Eric) and received a Masters Degree in Counseling from Indiana State University.

In 1978 my family moved to Achaffenburg, Germany where I served in several Infantry positions and our daughter Kara was born. In 1981 we moved to Bowie, Maryland and worked consecutively in the Washington DC area at a Research and Development Command, for the Joint Chiefs of Staff and at Fort McNair. Our son Brett was born there and I completed the Command and General Staff College and the Army War College. In 1989 we moved to Saint Joseph, Minnesota where I commanded the ROTC Unit at Saint John's University. I retired from the military in 1992 and we remained there to be close to extended family. I ran a small business, Kitchen Tune Up, selling it in 2003 and retiring.

Our four children are married and have gifted us with six grandchildren. For play, we vacationed around Germany five times and Ireland once and we love Branson, Missouri. I am active in the Knights of Columbus and the current Commander of the local American Legion. My wife and I serve in Worldwide Marriage Encounter, are active in our Church and volunteer on a Board of Catholic Charities. We camp most summer weekends near Breezy Point, MN. I enjoy woodworking. Like some of you I look in the mirror and see the image of my father.
