Harry Arthur Savela, 58, of Duluth passed away peacefully Sunday, in St. Mary's Medical Center after a sudden unexpected illness. Many of his loved ones were by his side. He was born in New York Mills, Minn. Harry attended Duluth Central High School. He obtained his GED while serving three years with the Army. Harry was a member of Boilermakers Local 647, recently working on the Potlatch expansion. Harry was a man of many and varied abilities. He was an active individual who took great pride in physical activities. He earned a brown belt in karate, and had finished many Grandma's Marathons. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman; accumulated flight hours towards a pilot's license; and enjoyed spending time at his farm in Moose Lake.

Harry is survived by his sons and their wives; Kurt and Cecilia Savela of Duluth and Shawn and Dawn Savela of Shoreview, Minn.; grandchildren Kevin, Heather, Emily and Aila; his mother, Elaine Savela of Duluth; sisters Alice (Vern) Tolzmann of Minneapolis, and Delores Beede of Duluth; brothers Alvin of Duluth, and Donald of Embarrass; his former wife, Paula Savela of Duluth; his special friend, Diane Mrosla Bottila of Cloquet; and many nieces and nephews.
