After graduating from Duluth Central, I attended the University of Minnesota in Duluth. I took two years of Pre-Engineering and two years of Electronics and Computers in the Industrial Education Department. After my third year at UMD, I worked for a year in the Right Of Way Department at the State of Minnesota Highway Department before returning to UMD where I graduated with a BS degree.

After graduating from UMD, I took a job in the Computer Education Department at Sperry Rand - Univac Corporation, a small start-up computer company, in St. Paul, Minnesota, in the Commercial Computer Division. I worked in the Univac Defense Systems Division for several years where I had several Patents for Computer Logic System Design.

During that time I taught computers to US Army and Air Force department personnel, in St. Paul, Minnesota, and Fullerton, California, essentially re-locating for several months at a time. I worked for several years in the Univac Eagan Renewal Center repairing and rebuilding large-scale commercial computer systems. I did several trips as a Computer System Field Engineer to do Computer System Repair, Maintenance, and Training in Guantanamo Bay Cuba. I worked for that company for 23 years, through name changes from Remington Rand Univac, to Sperry Rand Univac, to Univac, and finally, to Unisys.

Not long after moving to the Twin Cities to work at Univac, I met an intelligent and gorgeous young redheaded woman named Dana Riggs, from St. Cloud, Minnesota, who was attending the University of Minnesota at the St. Paul campus studying Interior Design, through a previous girlfriend. A few years later, in 1971, after Dana graduated from the U of M, my "young bachelor" status changed for a far better life when Dana and I were married.

For many years, I ran an evening and weekends Lowell Construction Company and did everything from Handy Man Repair work to remodeling in homes and Day Care Centers to doing room additions, three season porches and decks.

Dana and I built a home in Shoreview, working through the Sussel Company, and moved into it in 1976. During construction, while Dana was helping me cut the cast-iron sewer pipes we used below grade in the basement, she was carrying our first child, Jessica. Two years later Jessica got a baby sister, thanks again to Dana, named Megan. They both went through the Roseville School system. Jessica went to the University of Puget Sound and Megan went to the University of North Dakota and to St. Cloud State.

One of our most memorable vacations was when Dana and I and Terry and Jill Swor went to the Grand Cayman Island for a week with Jessica and Megan when they were just a few years old.

Terry Swor and I had double dated and worked together in High School and College and we have been life-long friends. Terry and his wife Jill, who passed away a few years ago, are Godparents to our children. They took that responsibility very seriously and played a very important role in the upbringing of the kids. They are part of our family, celebrating birthdays and holidays together.

We met another couple that lived just down the street from us in Shoreview, because their kids were the same age as ours and took the school bus together. We began playing golf with them and we still do summer golf leagues, weekend golf rounds, and a trip or two every year to play golf in other parts of the country, combining our enjoyment of golf with vacations. For 30 years, Tim and Tina Mueller and their kids have been great friends and are part of our family.

Dana and I have been members or Incarnation Lutheran Church, in Shoreview, Minnesota, for more than 30 years. Dana plays in the Bell Choir and I have served on the Building and Stewardship Committees.

In 1990 the department I ran at Unisys, which did Software Quality Assurance for the Computer Aided Design Engineering Department, was laid off. Following that, I worked as a Computer and Network Consultant for a year. One of the companies I consulted with to update and manage their MIS and Network systems, American Engineering Testing, a Construction Engineering Testing and Consulting company, grew very quickly and hired me. I am still employed there.

In 2004 Dana and I moved to our present home in the Weston Woods Townhome Community in White Bear Township. In 2008 my daughter Jessica and her husband, Patrick Doody, gifted his parents and Dana and me with a beautiful granddaughter, Ava Jill Doody.
