I left Duluth just a few days after graduation and joined my parents in Los Angeles where they had moved the summer before our senior year. I started school that fall and finally received B.A. degrees in Theater and English in 1966 from California State University at Northridge. The following year I earned my teaching credential and started my first (and, as it turned out, last) teaching job. That fall, recently married, I started working at Wm. S. Hart High School in a small community just north of Los Angeles called Newhall, now called Santa Clarita. By the way, Bill Hart was a silent movie cowboy who owned the property the school is built on. (Movie cowboys were big in this town)

I taught theater and English for ten years until the demands of parenthood (we had two children by then, a boy and a girl) drove me from the time-consuming grind of plays, musicals, reviews, and auditorium management, and I began teaching English full time. That was where I stayed for the next 27 years until my retirement in 2004. The last fifteen years I served as the primary negotiator for our teacher's union-----ooooohhh those were taxing and fulfilling adventures.

Along the way, a divorce interceded, and after several years I met my wife, Karen. We were married in 1983 and twenty-seven years later she is still putting up with me, mostly. Since our retirements, we have traveled throughout the West visiting most of the western National Parks primarily by car. We agreed we could stay in lots of B and Bs for the cost of a motor home, and B and Bs and hotels get cleaned by other people. Last year we made a memorable journey across country clear to Nova Scotia. That was an adventure!
