After graduating from UMD with a degree in Elementary Education, I taught in the Superior School System for three years. I married in 1964, then my teaching career was interrupted when my son, Kevin, was born in 1968. Following a painful divorce in 1971, I married my present husband, Tom Simard, in 1973. We have been happily married for over 37 years. I resumed my teaching career at Hermantown School, where I taught the third grade for over 30 years.
During the summer months, Tom and I would take lengthy automobile trips, traveling throughout the United States and Canada attending Kiwanis International Conventions. We would then continue driving and sightseeing for up to six weeks before heading home. We also had the opportunity to visit the island of Maui where Kevin and his bride were married.
I retired from teaching in 2000 and moved to Sun City West, Arizona in 2001. Here we do tolerate some hot summers, but thankfully, no snow or ice. We have made several return trips to Minnesota, however, we are quite content here in Arizona. Family and friends visit us regularly, not surprisingly, during the winter months. We anticipate continuing our leisurely life style here in sunny, dry Arizona for many more years.
