After graduation I spent the next 4 years in the navy, serving on the USS Randolph CVS-15 (anti-submarine warfare a/c carrier) as an electrician. After my stint in the Navy I went to work for MP&L as an electrician's helper but decided, after 1 1/2 years, that I didn't quite like working outside in those brutal northern Minnesota winters, so I moved to Minneapolis to find indoor work.

I started working for electric machinery mfg co, a manufacturer of large electric motors (1000hp - 75,000hp) and generators (up to 110 mw, enough to light Duluth), the day after Christmas 1966 and have been there ever since. I have been a winder and assembler working on these machines. I also have spent time in the field repairing these machines. My travels for the company has brought me to quite a few states and to some other countries; Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Jamaica, New York City, Venezuela, and China.

I love traveling; the company has allowed me to see places I would never have dreamed of being able to see! I really enjoyed the city of Salvador, Brazil (I spent 3 months there), the home of the samba, and host of the most attended carnival in the world, much more than Rio! I have been back there several times for vacations. Love the people, climate and the beaches! This year I visited Manila, Philippines twice and plan on going again in December. The last time there I had the opportunity to visit the cemetery of the fallen American military personnel from WWII. An awesome reminder of the cost of freedom!! Almost 40,000 burial sites there!!! I have also visited Spain, the Bahamas and Dominica for vacations.

I have 3 very special children; 2 daughters ages 38 and 31 and a son 36 sandwiched in the middle. Their mother and I are divorced and I have re-married. My wife's name is Joyce and she is from Salvador, Brazil. My spare? time is taken up by going to the fitness club and watching some sports on TV. Have gotten into NASCAR in recent years. I also go with my brother a couple of nights a week to bowl to play "buzz time trivia". I love music, although my likes are in the narrow lane of rock and roll. I haven't plateaued in any of the decades 50s, 60s or such, but enjoy much of the rock of now. I don't mind hearing some of the oldies occasionally, but prefer today's rock.

I would have retired several years ago, but the bombing out of the housing market forced me to keep working to make the house payments, because I would have taken a big loss trying to sell. It's a good thing I don't hate my job!! Maybe next year!!!

The past 50 years have been an interesting journey, but I am excited to see what tomorrow will bring!!!!!!!!!
