She was born in Duluth, the daughter of Roy and Helen Poole. She graduated from Duluth Central in 1961 and married Ronald Leander May 5, 1961. She was a social worker for St. Louis County for several years and moved to Grand Rapids in 1988. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Duluth.

She is survived by her husband, Ronald; one son, Joseph, Hibbing; three daughters, Rebecca Currie and Patricia Leander, both of Gilbert, Ariz.; and Jennifer Walker, Duluth; and five grandchildren
