Information update: 04/22/2016
After high school I got a job as a live in house maid nanny for about a year. Then Duluth Avionics came to town and I went to the training for this. I got hired and worked there for 3 years. We made black boxes for aircraft.
I got married in September of 1964, had and raised 3 sons. Two are surviving. Brian is 43 and Bruce is 40. Brandon died at age 21 in October of 1996. I was divorced after 18 years of marriage and lived alone with the 3 boys for 3 1/2 years. I married Philip Holbeck in February of 1985. Together we have 6 children. Phil has 2 sons and 1 daughter. I have 3 granddaughters and he has 3 granddaughters and 3 grandsons (1 grandson is deceased). Together, our grandkids total 8.
Over the years I worked for chore service, cleaning for the elderly and handicapped, and also did errands for them. I did this for about 20 years. I had a short period of not working, and then when Reserve Mining went bankrupt (this is where Phil worked for 31 years), I had to do something and I went back to the Lake County chore service. Currently, and for the past 10 years I have been the custodian at our church in Two Harbors.
I have now lived in Two Harbors for 45 years. I grew up in Rice Lake Township in Arnold, on the Arnold Road. I attended Arnold School through 8th grade, Washington Junior High School for 9th grade and then on to Central High School. I was supposed to graduate in 1961, and still call this my class, but I had to repeat a class and graduated in 1962. I did it! I can't believe that it's 50 years. One thing no one can lie about is how old he or she is, because we are all the same age.
In 2008, both Phil and I, just a month apart were told we had cancer. We made it and mine won't come back, 100% cured, Phil is 97% cured. We are fine and in very good health to date. We both are semi-retired. My job is part time, ha ha. Philip's is part-time summer for the City of Two Harbors, at the city campground.
We enjoy our family, neighbors and friends very, very much and do as much as we can. We're getting old and somewhat slow.
Things I like to do:
Sewing - I did a lot of sewing as the boys were growing up. I don't have much interest in sewing projects any more.
Cooking and Baking - I do a lot of this, not just for us, but also for different group bake sales and just bringing goodies to people who can't do it any longer or to those who are alone.
Grandkids - I love to have the grandkids over and baby-sit when I can, they don't live up here. They are all in the Minneapolis area.
Flowers - I love to take care of flowers in the summer when the deer don't eat them and the weather cooperates.
Have a good day!!
