Right after high school graduation I worked at East High School, UMD and the Duluth AFB where I met and married the love of my life, Jim Stanley (Stan). He told me after the service we would move to Atlanta where he returned to GA Tech and earned his Master's Degree in Civil Engineering. We have three children, seven grandchildren, from 5 months to 15 years, and have lived in Sugar Hill, GA since 1970. I worked while Stan was in Viet Nam and grad school, with the birth of our second child; I quit work and was a "stay at home" Mom for 11 years. We were very involved with church, school and scouting activities. I went back to work for an engineering company part time for two - three weeks, putting specs on their new computer system, this turned into full time employment to Accounting Manager which ended 25 years later when I retired early so I could do some fun things. Stan retired 3-1/2 years later and we both thoroughly enjoy our 24/7 together.
We have done a good bit of traveling; a cruise to the Caribbean for our 25th anniversary, chartered a sailboat in the British Virgin Islands with our daughter and her hubby, in the past 8 years, a driving trip thru seven countries in Europe - scheduled around the 60th anniversary of Normandy, a land/cruise trip to Alaska for my retirement - all the way to Prudhoe Bay - a must for an engineer - saw lots of wild life and beautiful country, if you go, do the land tour first so you can relax on the cruise. Then a 12 day Mediterranean cruise which we extended to 18 days by spending a couple days prior in Venice and at the end three days in Rome - this is our favorite so far. Stan's retirement trip was a week on a cruise to the Mexican Rivera and then 14 days at Tahiti and Bora Bora.
We have done two three week driving trips in the last two years - one to Duluth and west to Yellowstone, back to Duluth and home via Missouri, Memphis, just taking our time to see all the sights along the way. Last year we planned a trip in the northeast scheduled around Stan's 50th high school reunion (in upstate NY) and our 45th anniversary. There are so many beautiful sights to see right here in the USA. Our family goes to Pawleys Island SC every July and because of that we will miss my 50th class reunion.
We thoroughly enjoy our family times, being a part of the grand children's activities - we have four near us who are in sports so keep our schedule busy and our three youngest are in Norfolk VA so we travel up there several times a year and they also join us at the beach and come home for at least one holiday a year. Hobbies include gardening, knitting and reading.
