After graduating from UMD with a major in economics and minors in Spanish and art, I went to Spain to do graduate work in Spanish. After a semester there, I traveled through Europe as a poor student, staying at youth hostels and meeting young people from various parts of the world. I finally ended up in Athens, Greece, where my family lived. I was immediately hired to work as an economist for the Greek American Center of Economic Research headed by Andrea Papandreou who later became the prime minister of Greece. He had worked as a professor of economics at Berkeley, CA and hired American educated Greeks. A year later, I took a position with the Special Services of the US Armed Forces in Germany for two years. During that time, I had the opportunity to travel to almost every European country.

I also met my husband there, a native San Franciscan. Thus, I ended up in California and specifically in San Jose where I studied for my MA in Spanish literature. I got married and began teaching Spanish in high school and junior college. I had two children (a boy and a girl) whom I took to Greece to visit my family almost every summer. I also took my students to Mexico and Costa Rica. During my teaching career, I served as a mentor teacher for seven years and as a master teacher for Stanford's student teaching program. I also received two Fulbright fellowships, one to Poland and one to Japan.

I retired about five years ago. I continue to travel often (China, Russia, three river cruises in Europe), love to garden (I have 80 heirloom roses), do some creative writing (some of my short stories have been published in literary magazines), enjoy cooking and, above all, take care and spend time with my two little grandsons.
