Edward R. Wakefield Sr., 56, of Ugstad Road in Hermantown died Thursday of natural causes, in his home with his family at his side. He was born in Duluth to Harold and Catherine (Pero) Wakefield. He was a 1961 graduate of Duluth Central High School. Ed married Phyllis Perrault on Nov. 17, 1962 in Duluth. He was a longshoreman working out of the Longshoreman's Union Local 1366. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid stock car racing fan. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Gnesen and the Army National Guard. He was a former member of the Teamsters Union.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harold; a son, Jimmy; and brothers Henry and William. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; sons Edward Jr. and Steven, both of Duluth; his mother Catherine Wakefield of Duluth; brothers Harold Jr. "Corky" (Bonnie), Michael and Bob (Mary), all of Duluth; a sister Cheryl (Gary) Hann of Duluth; many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; grandchildren Amber, Dylan, Brooke, Zachary, Aaron, Mariah and Erica; many nieces and nephews; and a long-time friend, John Chiovitti.
