This is kind of like writing a Christmas letter after 50 years to catch up. So here goes.
I am one of those who have lived in Duluth all but 2 years since graduation. I attended St. Luke's graduating in 1964. I met my husband, Gerald Thilmany in Nov., 1961, and we were married July 11, 1964 one year before his graduation from UMD in Elementary Education. I have often said I majored in Gerald and minored in nursing. Together we raised 3 children, Allan, recently retired USAF pilot, David, who died tragically in 1991, and Sarah, who teaches math @ Lake Superior College in Duluth. We have 7 grandsons and 1 granddaughter between 10 and 19. They bring joy to the present and hope for the future.
Nursing was a great career for raising children. I was able to work part-time until they were grown. I worked for 25 years at St. Luke's Birthing Center. I was happy to take care of some of my classmates, their wives and babies, like Karen Filby, Roger Hanson, Ken Sorensen and Karen Johnson. I also worked as a school nurse and in home care, retiring in 2000.
When the children were young, we did a lot of family camping and canoe trips. In 1979, we bought a cabin on the Gunflint Trail. After 20 years we added on and put in plumbing. It is a retreat for us and our family and friends. You'll find us there most of the summer. We love to travel, mostly spring and fall to shorten the winter a bit. We've taken several cruises, Alaska, Hawaii and the Caribbean. We've been to Scandinavia, Europe several times (especially while our son was stationed in Germany), the British Isles and Mexico in addition to road trips in the US and Canada. We've enjoyed traveling and visiting classmates and their spouses.
My life is full with faith, family and friends. In addition to traveling, I'm involved in church and Bible study. I love reading, writing (my memoirs), painting, quilting and time at the lake. Hope to visit with you at the reunion.
