With graduation came my first job, beyond the typical after school or summer job. Referred by Mr. Bindler, the art teacher, to Minnesota Woolen Co.,I worked in the art and advertising dept. , drawing on a scope, running the mimeograph machine and photo touch-up for the fashion catalog, with a paint brush. How times have changed. I think these are now considered antiques, which I do enjoy collecting.

In 1964 I married class mate Bob VanGuilder. We built our starter home in Arnold and started a family in 1966, which ended my career at Mn. Woolen Co.. In 1971, after the birth of our third child, we outgrew our home and bought a farm in Duluth township. I become a stay at home Mom and farmers wife. Our farm was partially a fun place for kids and a lot of hard work, beyond Bob's full time job. Beside being a funny farm we raised beef cattle. We completed our family with 3 boys and 1 girl (our 1st born). Kim lives in Duluth with her husband and 2 children and are self employed (North Shore Sanitary). Wade is an engineer with Cisco Systems and Erik an engineer with Medronic. They both live in Ham Lake. Ward is the director of physical therapy with clinics in Reno and Carson City and lives in Sparks, NV.. We're still on the farm but have given up animals and making hay. With the end of farming and children at home, came some spare time. I went to work at Pfeifer Hamilton Publishing Co. until down-sizing left me taking some computer classes at the Flex Lab. My next job took me to Era Environmental Testing Lab., until my retirement and the beginning of volunteering beyond scouts and PTA.

My travels haven't been too exotic. We made one trip to Hawaii and other travels within the U.S. to visit family and friends. I enjoy the outdoors, especially summer, canoeing and camping in the BWCA, fly-in fishing trips and the cabin on Cloquet Lake. We hope to increase our travels as Bob cuts the strings of his full-time job, as Branch Mgr. at the Proctor branch of Northern Engine and Supply, where he's worked for 43 years. We are planning a three week road trip through Canada to S.E. Alaska in June. We'll take our time enjoying the beautiful sights, National Parks, hot springs and hopefully do some ocean and stream fishing.

The best times are spent with family. I enjoy working in the vegetable and flower gardens and going for walks on a nice summer day. My favorite winter activities would be cross country skiing, going to a good play and possibly a trip to a warmer place for a week or two. I"m looking forward to reconnecting with everyone at the reunion.
