Bob passed away Feb. 5, 2014 at home. He was born Oct. 4, 1943 in Minneapolis to Carlton and Inez (Sonquist) Holmes. He graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1961. In life, Bob was a friendly loving family man who loved reading (especially Louis L'Amore), dining out, playing cards with friends, and traveling. Bob worked as a forger for Diamond Tool for 23 years retiring in 1994.

He was united in marriage to Kathryn Berg on Dec. 26, 1975. Bob was a longtime resident of Fredenberg and had many jobs including delivering newspapers, phone books, and night manager at J. & A. Hamburgers in downtown Duluth. Bob loved playing cards, Bloody Mary's, and chicken enchiladas. He was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Esko, and sang in the Arnold Church Choir and Carolyn Chorale.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; Inez; step-mother, Alice Holmes; and his wife, Kathryn. He is survived by his father, Carlton Holmes; children, Michael (Jazmyn) Holmes, Shawn (Lynnae) Holmes, Eric Holmes, and Kim (Dan) Linder who he considered his own; grandchildren, Taylor; Jacob, Daniel, Nathan and Ethan, brothers, Thomas (Jan) and Lawrence; sister, Signe (Joe) Perigoue; and nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family.
