After graduating from Central I went to UMD where I got a BA in chemistry and mathematics. I hated chem labs so I went to graduate school in mathematics. I got tear gassed twice at Berkeley on the way to getting my PhD. I worked at Wayne State in Detroit, Michigan for a few years and then I went to Ford Motor and did research on cars for 31 years. Along the way I got married, had 4 children and I now have 8 grandchildren.

I was a shy nerd at Central, but after all those years, I still am! My mother died in April of the year I graduated, and my time in Duluth after that was very difficult. I go back once a year to visit her grave and my father's grave in Minneapolis. I never cease to wonder at the scenic beauty of Duluth, something I never appreciated when growing up and living there. After 50 years I can say "youth is wasted on the young", I think it is from Oscar Wilde.

People say when you are young you are easily frightened by things. But when you grow up you are not. I remember living in Duluth and never being afraid of hills. Now however after living in the Detroit metro area, which is flat, when I go back to Duluth the big hills scare me.
